Job Description

The IT Business Analyst is part of the Education Design and Informatics team within the Office of Health Sciences Education at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and is a key individual contributor responsible for business analysis needs of the School of Medicine’s medical education programs that support the strategic development of technology solutions. Reporting directly to the Product Manager, the IT Business Analyst collaborates with VUSM faculty, student leaders, and course support staff to gather and refine software requirements. The IT Business Analyst will assist the Product Manager in working closely with business customers to gather requirements and ensure that their needs are clearly understood and documented. The IT Business Analyst also translates business requirements into user acceptance criteria. 

 

This is an onsite, hybrid role that requires 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.

 

About the Work Unit: 

The Office of Health Sciences Education (OHSE) administers degree programs of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. The dedicated staff in OHSE work to provide a range of support including academic program administration, educational design and informatics, financial and administrative oversight, and student services. 

Our students gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they will need to practice safe, effective, ethical, evidence-based, and patient/client-centered health care. 

Key Functions and Expected Performance: 

  • Analyzes user needs and desired results and demonstrates good understanding of the business requirements driving the projects and translates that knowledge using appropriate documentation, such as technical requirements, outlines, flowcharts, and user stories as needed. 
  • Conducts requirement analyses for the development and modification of new and existing applications by conferring with team members, performing various use studies and statistical analyses. 
  • Develops and maintains appropriate documentation that captures new product functionality or enhances current functionality that is used by others to train end users. 
  • Works with the Product Manager and Application Developers to divide projects into manageable user stories and sprints and helps identify blocks and find solutions. 
  • Serves as technical resource to users and others in the department by assisting with production problem investigation and documentation. 
  • Actively identifies and participates in training, education, and development activities to sustain and enhance professional development, keeping up with on trend technological innovations 

 

Education and Certifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary. 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business Administration is preferred. 

 

Experience and Skills: 

  • 3+ years of business analyst experience is preferred
  • 3 year of experience working in an agile environment is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working in an Agile environment and familiarity with Agile development of stories is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle best practices is preferred
  • Experience writing user acceptance criteria is strongly preferred
  • Experience with behavior-driven development, the Gherkin language and Cucumber is preferred
  • Experience with MS Office 365 tools is preferred
  • Experience with Asana is preferred
  • Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence is strongly preferred.
  • General knowledge of HTML, CSS, and SQL is preferred.
