Job Description

The Associate IT Business Analyst at Vanderbilt University Information Technology plays an important role in connecting business needs with technological solutions. This role involves working closely with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements. The Associate IT Business Analyst uses their analytical skills to collect and interpret data, identifying trends and patterns that inform business decisions. They help document current business processes and define future state processes in collaboration with stakeholders. The position requires maintaining thorough documentation and ensuring effective communication between business and technical teams, supporting informed decision-making and ongoing process improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Requirement Gathering and Documentation:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to elicit, analyze, document, and validate business requirements.
  • Understand the needs of various departments and translate them into clear and comprehensive specifications.

Data Analysis and Interpretation:

  • Collect, interpret, and analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Utilize various tools and methodologies to extract and process data to support business decisions.

Process Mapping and Improvement:

  • Document current business processes and assist in creating process flowcharts to identify areas for improvement.
  • Work with stakeholders to help define future state processes and contribute to process optimization initiatives.

Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration:

  • Facilitate communication between business and technical teams to ensure a common understanding of requirements and project objectives.
  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders to drive informed decision-making.

Documentation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of requirements, processes, and project-related materials.
  • Continuously monitor and assess business processes and systems, offering recommendations for enhancements and optimizations.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility, this position reports administratively and functionally to the Executive Director Digital Strategies & Transformation Executive Director.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is necessary
  • Relevant business analysis certifications are preferred
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience is necessary
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary
  • Proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools is necessary
  • Experience with data analysis tools and methodologies is necessary
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary
  • Basic knowledge of project management principles and tools is preferred
  • Familiarity with various software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) is preferred
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment is necessary
  • Demonstrated commitment to VUIT’s Guiding Principles is necessary
